Allergic and non-allergic rhinitis is often confused by bacterial and viral infections. Allergic reactions are quite common you can have them all year round and some allergies are seasonal as well. the symptoms of allergy are quite inconvenient as you get runny and itchy nose with sneezing. In some cases, you will also experience the watery eyes. Some of the times the rhinitis is allergic other times it is not. Different medicines are used for the same purpose and all of them belong to the corticosteroids class. Flonase, Nasacort, and Nasonex are used to relieve these symptoms.

Similarities between Nasacort, Flonase, and Nasonex

Nasonex, Nasacort, and Flonase all are brand names and have different active ingredients. But these active ingredients belong to the same class of drugs which means the purpose is the same. They are also available in the same dosage form which is in the form of a nasal spray. The dose may be different for each but the method of use is the same in all three of the cases. Side effects are almost the same in all three medicines. Another thing that is common is that all three of them act by decreasing the inflammation which is a result of allergic reactions.

Nasacort vs Flonase

Nasacort and Flonase are different from each other in a lot of aspects. The main difference is that Nasacort has Triamcinolone in it and Flonase has the Fluticasone in it. Nasacort gives 55 micrograms per spray while Flonase gives 50 micrograms per spray so the dose of both is different. Flonase can’t also be given on children below 4 years while Nasacort can be given to children as young as 2 years old. Storage temperature for both the drugs is different too because you can store Nasacort at room temperature which is not a case with Flonase.

Nasacort vs. Nasonex

The differences between the Nasacort and Nasonex include the active ingredient as Nasacort has triamcinolone and Nasonex has mometasone. Where Nasacort can be bout over the counter you can’t buy Nasonex without a prescription. Nasacort can be used for the short term only whereas the length of treatment for Nasonex is to be decided by the doctor who prescribes it. Nasonex also treats the nasal polyps while Nasacort doesn’t and is used only for the seasonal allergies.

Nasonex vs Flonase

Nasonex and Flonase have different active ingredients. One has the mometasone and the later one has the fluticasone. Nasonex can treat nasal polyps but fluticasone cannot. Nasonex is a prescription medicine and can’t treat the runny and itchy eyes, unlike Flonase. The difference between the side effects of both is that the Nasonex is responsible for the viral infections and Flonase is responsible for asthma-like symptoms.

So these are all the differences that will help you select a drug for your rhinitis. Flonase vs Nasonex vs Nasacort is an important difference so that based on your medical and physical condition a right medicine can be selected for you.
