Tone It Up Bikini Series 2016: Week 4 update (and what happened when I went off the nutrition plan this past weekend)

Week 4 RecapHappy almost Friday, friends! Sorry for the lack of blog posts and engagement lately — I’ve been trying to pack in more freelance articles (two more for AskMen.com!) during the week to keep my weekends free and clear for fun activities… like camping!

I doubled-down on my Tone It Up Bikini Series workouts this past week and took some measurements at the three week mark to see how I was doing. I definitely felt better and less bloated, but it was great to see a wee half-inch drop all around (except for the booty!) and the 4 lbs I gained livin’ it up at Disneyland and Vegas in February absent from the scale. To celebrate, I #ateallthethings when I went camping this past weekend and paid the price.Β

Okay, well not really. After three to four weeks in a deficit it’s good to give your body a break and eat at maintenance for a week to keep your metabolism functioning well. So that’s what I did. I ate in a deficit for four days last week, made up for it on the weekend and came out even-ish. Unfortunately, I can’t eat tasty treats like I used to and feel good the next day. Or the day after that. Three days of marshmallows, chocolate (shhhh, yes I had some!), cookies, pretzels, popcorn, rice chips and wine = three days of digestion hell. I’m still recovering from my junk food coma, and have come down with some sort of cold/illness to boot.

Good thing I only go camping a few times a year.

Yes, I know I could have eased up on the treats, and most of the time (and at every other party/event) I do… but there’s just something about camping and snacking that go so well together. Like wine and pretzels. Like wine and pizza. Like wine and chocolate…

Aside from being sick, I’m back on the Tone It Up nutrition and workout plan and am looking forward to more “toning” workouts this week. Over the weekend, Debbie and I managed to get out for a 8K trail run on Sunday to burn off some of the weekend’s junk food calories, and Matt and I took the dogs for an hour-long hike on Saturday. I’m hoping to fit in another run this week if my illness goes away.
