Meet my future trail running buddy

So we drove all the way down to Spokane this past weekend to pick up this little guy…

Meet Gus, the English Springer Spaniel!

Yes, we already have two dogs… so what’s one more? Kai is slowing down a bit these days and can’t keep up when trail running anymore, and Indy… well, Indy is a lap dog who would rather lie in the sun on the back deck than go for a run (though he is a solid little hiker and loves walks — when it’s not too hot and not raining).

On his way home from Spokane, slept like a champ almost the whole way!

Gus was the exciting thing I was alluding to in blog posts awhile back. We were actually going to be getting a different spaniel pup at the end of May (I bought Gus for Matt for his birthday, which was in early May), but it didn’t pan out so we searched around some more and found a good breeder in the states with a current litter. When I contacted the breeder, she said all her puppies are spoken for six months in advance but she just had someone cancel. So we got on the list in April, and Gus (who happened to be our first choice and one of the last two pups available) came home with us on Saturday.

THAT FACE

Both Kai and Indy don’t seem to mind the new puppy at all — in fact, Kai is downright tolerant of all his nipping at her butt and pulling on her collar. I could watch him trotting around after her all day — he’s just the sweetest little thing, and Kai seems so think so, too. Indy met him on Sunday, but he’s still with my parents so he’ll have more time to get to know him next week after Gus gets settle a bit.

I promise I’ll get back to more running, lifting and yoga blog posts later this week πŸ™‚

Have you introduced a new puppy to older dogs? How did it go? Any good training/housebreaking tips to share?
