{Friday Favourites} The best reads in health, food, fitness and life this week

Life In LeggingsHappy Friday, friends! How was your week? Even though this week was a short one for me it felt like it was never going to end. Last weekend I got to see one of my best friends get married before jetting off to Vancouver the following day for a Shania Twain concert (Yes, Shania Twain. I love her. Don’t judge me), then had a very busy week at both jobs. I can tell my introverted self needs a bit of a slower weekend to recharge. So other than some causal hang-outs with good friends on patios, I plan to take it easy this weekend!

I’m linking up with the lovely Heather of Life in Leggings as per usual to share some of the most interesting reads in health, food, fitness and life I found around the web this week.

How To Create a Full Body Workout in 6 Steps – Reach Your Peak
A great step-by-step guide to creating your own strength program. There are a lot of factors to consider when creating a strength workout, such as starting with multi-joint movements to get the most bang for your buck out of your workout and using opposing muscle groups during sets to make sure you’re hitting each group evenly without getting fatigued.

Easy Pad Thai Sauce and Stir Fry Recipe (Gluten Free options) – Suzlyfe
I love homemade Pad Thai, and this recipe from Susie looks incredibly easy and delicious. I’ve made Pad Thai with chicken, tofu and shrimp, but using halibut or another white fish would be really yummy!

Bikers & Runners & Drivers Can’t We All Play Nice? – Confessions of a MotherRunner
I live near a popular walking/cycling trail in Victoria, and get yelled at weekly by cyclists who think they own the trail. I’ve also been a cyclist on the trail and witness some pretty annoying and unsafe behaviour from pedestrians and dog owners. Seriously — can’t we all just be considerate of one another and slow down/move over/leash our dogs so no one gets hurt?

Wild Blueberry Energy Bars – The Lean Green Bean
These yummy-looking energy bars developed by Lindsey, a Registered Dietitian, would be the perfect grab n’ go snack.

10 Healthy and Happy Life Hacks – Jill Conyers
There is so much wisdom and good stuff in this post that I actually felt happier after reading it. I’ve been working on a few of the tips Jill suggests, and I can tell you they truly do help you cultivate a happier, more fulfilling life.

Remember that guy who’s attempting 50 Ironmans in 50 states in 50 days?
He’s still going! And he’s still on schedule, too, despite several setbacks including flat tires, rashes and shoulder issues, which forced him to swim with just one arm the other day. Amazing. You can follow along with his progress on his website or Facebook page.

Denali – Ben Moon (Before you watch this, go get some tissues. Trust me.)
This is one of the most beautiful and touching things I’ve ever seen. So many feels. Plus it’s SO well done — such a poignant piece. If you’re a dog owner, you will probably bawl your eyes out. I think I’ve watched it at least five times now. But seriously — watch it. It’s only seven minutes.

What are you up to this weekend? How far do you think the Iron Cowboy will make it? Did Denali make you ugly cry, too??
